Conference topics

Abstracts and papers may be submitted under the following topics:

01- URBAN TOURISM, SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT AND MOBILITY

Under this topic authors are invited to discuss and present solutions for social and economic issues associated with urban tourism. Papers may also address the assessment of environmental impacts due to transportation systems and infrastructures, as for example their contribution to climate change due to greenhouse gases emissions, deforestation and destruction of urban/natural landscapes.

02- TOURISM AND THE PRESERVATION OF CULTURAL AND LANDSCAPE IDENTITIES

This topic is related to how tourism activities may promote and preserve cultural identities and cultural landscapes without destroying their authenticity and to how to create cultural stereotypes. Case-studies are welcome in this topic.

03- ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF TOURISM

Questions on how environmental impacts of tourism infrastructures and activities may be reduced by adopting more sustainable principles in their planning, design, construction and operation, moving forward to a more conscious decision maker, planner, manager and use.

04- TOURISM AND THE PRESERVATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE SITES

Under this topic authors should address specific projects, programmes, individual measures and/or practices of safeguarding monument and archaeological sites from physical decay due to visitors' flows. Management of such sites in terms of “access versus safeguarding” should be one of the focus in this topic.

05- EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM MANAGEMENT AND PRACTICES

This topic covers the presentation of educational and training actions that raises awareness on communities to the practices of sustainability in tourism activities.

07- TOURISM AND INCLUSIVITY

Under this topic authors may address specific measures for adjustment of tourist sites to users with special needs, including the elderly, children, disabled, as well as visually, deaf and speech impaired visitors.
